Main Color
So now that everything is primed the next step is to lay down a base coat of the main color. I knew I wanted a deep, dark green and the only one that was dark enough for me ended up being the Citadel Foundation Orkhide Shade from Games Workshop. I painted this on the main armor plates of the ‘jacks and on Kreoss’ shoulder pads. (I didn’t get a shot of Kreoss with just the base green).
Crusader
I did my best to leave the black primer showing between the thin plates on the Crusader and was mildly successful at that; it should help make them pop a bit once it’s done.
Metallic Base Coat
Next up was to base coat everything that would be a metallic color with Vallejo Chainmail Silver. I had a tough time getting this to thin properly with water, sometimes it was just too thin and I’d have to go back over it again. From here on out I didn’t always take a picture of every model at every step so not all steps will have four pictures.
Chassis Metallic
I decided that rather than use the usual Bolt Gun (GW) or Pig Iron (P3) colors I wanted something with a hint of brown to the metal so I used a 50:50 mix of Vallejo Tinny Tin and Gunmetal. I think it turned out quite nicely and I can’t remember seeing any other models using quite this color. I did the main chassis, arms and legs in this color. The color isn’t too easy to see in some of these pictures, hopefully when I’m done and do some serious photography the color will be easier to see.
